How To Coordinate and Leverage Funds to Increase Competitive Integrated Employment (CIE)
A funding crosswalk is a chart that describes the allowable uses of each funding source that may be available to employment service providers across various potential funding streams. Learn more in a new ODEP-funded report ?Funding Crosswalks: Coordinating and Leveraging Resources to Increase CIE? from the Advancing State Policy Integration for Recovery and Employment (ASPIRE) initiative. The report describes how to create and use a funding crosswalk to leverage resources across systems to effectively blend, braid and/or sequence funds and services needed to increase competitive, integrated employment (CIE) for people with disabilities, including those with mental health conditions. The Crosswalk uses the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) model of supported employment as an example.

The National Employment First (E1st) Community of Practice (CoP) listserv supports the efforts of professionals, policy leaders, and advocates to increase the practice of Competitive Integrated Employment (CIE) throughout the country. Quarterly newsletters highlight recent progress and key developments in E1st efforts, provider transformation, policy updates, and resources available for those at the state and national levels. In addition, listserv members receive notices of monthly CoP webinars and other occasional policy and programmatic updates from the Office of Disability Employment (ODEP).

Share Your Thoughts on the Standard Occupational Classification for ?Care Workers?
For the purposes of collecting, analyzing and disseminating national workforce data, the federal government?s Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) Manual classifies occupations in which work is performed for pay or profit. The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is seeking public input for revisions to the manual in 2028. One area open for comments: ?care worker? occupations, which include such occupations as direct support professionals (DSPs), who provide critical services for people with disabilities. DSPs and other care worker occupations are not currently included in the SOC Manual. Public comments may be submitted until August 12, 2024.

Small businesses are the engine of the American economy, employing just under half of all U.S. workers and comprising more than 99% of businesses. Owning a small business that employs others or being self-employed is an important avenue to economic empowerment for many people. This is particularly true for people with disabilities who may benefit from greater access, freedom and flexibility at work. Human Rights and Disability Employment in Cambodia: Funding Opportunity
In many places around the world, people with disabilities face barriers, including difficulties accessing employment. In turn, this can make them vulnerable to child labor, forced labor and human trafficking. The U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of International Labor Affairs recently announced a $3 million funding opportunity focused on addressing these issues in Cambodia. The grant will fund a technical assistance project to support Cambodian disability organizations and their key stakeholders in responding to labor exploitation and reducing barriers to decent work.
