Almost everyone agrees — voting by mail is safe, secure, convenient, and completely necessary for keeping our democracy running smoothly during the coronavirus pandemic.
I'm talking about Democrats, who point to Oregon's successes over the last generation as a vote-by-mail pioneer.
I'm talking about Republicans, who, just this month in Pennsylvania, argued that "voting by mail is an easy, convenient, and secure way to cast your ballot."
And I'm talking about the American people, who overwhelmingly want a way to be a part of our democracy without putting their health and safety at risk with unnecessary exposure to the coronavirus.
Which is why it's time to take action. Already, 71,175 people have signed on to our movement to urge Congress to pass national vote-by-mail right now. Will you join us?
The person standing in the way? Donald Trump. Although he voted by mail himself just last month, he doesn't want the American people to because he's afraid Republicans will lose. He said it himself.
Trump and Mitch McConnell claim that they're worried about voter fraud but that's a red herring. Voting by mail, with its paper trail and safety checks, is actually safer and less prone to error or fraud.
Trump's line is entirely political and crass. He knows that, thanks to his failures, this pandemic is far worse than it could or should have been.
So, in order to win in 2020, he wants to make it harder to vote, to make people scared to exercise their constitutional rights.
Which is why we need to make this apolitical and bipartisan: we need national vote-by-mail right now. Sign my petition now and let's get to 100,000 Americans speaking out with one loud voice.
Jeff
