The debate over Trump’s fitness for public office should have ended forever on January 6th, 2021. On that day, Trump incited a riot at the Capitol and tried to overturn the results of a free and fair election. In doing so, he became the first American President to not adhere to the peaceful transfer of power, a bedrock of American Democracy. 

In the aftermath of January 6th, the media and many Republicans excoriated Trump for his actions. But, once it became clear that Trump was the nominee again, all of that went away. 

And then Joe Biden had a bad debate and, for a month, there was wall to wall coverage and speculation about when he would drop out. 

A lot of that coverage was around Biden’s verbal flubs and mental lapses. You know, the same kind of stuff we’ve seen over and over again from Trump on the campaign trail. Examples like:

So, after yesterday, where are the calls to resign? Where are the editorial boards denouncing Trump’s campaign?
