In case you missed it, on Wednesday, Trump had a pretty difficult day. In a matter of 24 hours he:
- Made racist remarks at a conference for Black journalists, including questioning Kamala Harris’ race and calling the moderator “nasty” and “hostile.”
- At a Pennsylvania rally, he made a distasteful joke about Corey Comperatore, the first responder who died shielding his family from bullets during the attempt on Trump’s life.
- At the same rally, Trump introduced U.S. Senate candidate David McCormick as Pennsylvania’s “next Governor.”
It’s been painfully obvious for a long while that Donald Trump isn’t fit to be President. So where are the calls from the legacy media for him to get out of the race?
The debate over Trump’s fitness for public office should have ended forever on January 6th, 2021. On that day, Trump incited a riot at the Capitol and tried to overturn the results of a free and fair election. In doing so, he became the first American President to not adhere to the peaceful transfer of power, a bedrock of American Democracy.
In the aftermath of January 6th, the media and many Republicans excoriated Trump for his actions. But, once it became clear that Trump was the nominee again, all of that went away.
And then Joe Biden had a bad debate and, for a month, there was wall to wall coverage and speculation about when he would drop out.
A lot of that coverage was around Biden’s verbal flubs and mental lapses. You know, the same kind of stuff we’ve seen over and over again from Trump on the campaign trail. Examples like:
- Calling President Biden “Obama” 8 times 🤔
- Warning that President Biden might get us into “World War II” 😳
- Repeatedly confusing Nikki Haley and Nancy Pelosi 🤨
- Falling asleep during his own criminal trial in New York 😴
- Giving multiple speeches where he slurs his words and sounds totally incoherent while speaking 🫠
So, after yesterday, where are the calls to resign? Where are the editorial boards denouncing Trump’s campaign?
With less than 100 days to go before Election Day, more and more Americans are turning to the news to make up their minds before heading to the polls. They deserve access to honest, unbiased reporting.
