Friend, it was an honor to be mentioned by President Trump during his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention.

In 2008, my Humvee was hit by a bomb in Afghanistan. I was covered in diesel fuel and burned alive.

I was saved by the words of my gunner, who said “Sir, I’ve got you!”

They gave me hope, the kind of hope needed to make it through years of surgeries that left my face permanently scarred.

In hindsight, that day was a blessing in more ways than you could imagine.

Though my body and face were permanently scarred, my soul was saved that day. 

As President Trump now knows all too well, coming so close to death has a way of changing a person’s life and renewing one’s faith in God.

I was willing to lay down my life for my country, and to this day I still am. I was proud to serve in Afghanistan and I will be proud to serve again alongside President Trump.

America, I’ve got you!
