Hi–

Day in and day out, our volunteers are hard at work to end our gun
violence crisis and keep our communities safe. Read on to learn what our
gun violence prevention movement was up to in July.

Good News!

Defeating gun extremism this election cycle is going to take all of us.
So last week, we hosted a virtual elections rally with more than 1,600
volunteers to get them plugged into our voter mobilization work.

We deserve leaders who take our gun violence crisis seriously—so we're
all hands on deck until November 5.

to mobilize voters from home.

Moms and Students Demand Action volunteers in Massachusetts have been
working for years to pass a critical gun safety bill—and last week,
Governor Healey signed it into law!

This bill will raise the age to own a semi-automatic rifle or shotgun to
21, prohibit unserialized and untraceable ghost guns, and more. This
legislation will save lives—and it wouldn't have been possible without
the hard work of our volunteers.

As the start of the school year approaches, our student volunteers are
gearing up to organize young people on their high school and college
campuses.

down the ballot.

Everytown in the News

U.S. Capitol Building in front of an Everytown-branded podium.

In a win for students this month, New York State banned realistic active
shooter drills.

There's almost no research confirming the value of these drills for
preventing school shootings or protecting the school community when
shootings do occur—even though 95% of American public schools drill
students on lockdown procedures.

"There is absolutely no reason for those types of drills," Senior
Director of Everytown Research, Sarah Burd-Sharps said. "The drills do
not make it more likely that they will understand or respond better to
anything. It only makes it more likely that it will traumatize them."

the nation bans realistic active shooter drills."

The gun industry not only profits off of selling guns to extremists who
seek to commit violence—it markets products to extremists by spreading
dangerous conspiracy theories, supports political leaders who give cover
to extremists, and opposes policies that would make it more difficult
for extremists to get guns.

Our latest report explores the rise in armed extremism and the dangerous
role the gun lobby plays in fueling it. Read the report: [ [link removed] ]"Paranoia
and Profit: Armed Extremism and the Gun Industry's Role in Fostering
It."

Last week, we endorsed Kamala Harris for U.S. President!

The choice is simple: Only one presidential candidate understands that
"freedom" includes the freedom to be safe from gun violence. That's why
VP Harris has called for comprehensive gun safety reforms, including a
federal assault weapons ban.

Because freedom means keeping assault weapons out of the hands of
extremists. [ [link removed] ]Send a message now urging your representative and
senators to support a federal assault weapons ban.

Thanks for being a part of this movement,
