John, so much has happened recently that it’s easy to forget that the Supreme Court has essentially given former and future presidents near-total immunity for any crimes they commit in office.
That’s no way for a democracy to function – and if we don’t act quickly to reverse that ruling, the consequences will stick with us and our children indefinitely.
So here’s some great news, John: with Common Cause’s support, Rep. Joe Morelle introduced a constitutional amendment that will permanently declare that no American is above the law – not even former presidents – and prohibit presidents from pardoning themselves. [1]
As President Biden emphasized this week, this is a chance to right the Supreme Court’s wrong – will you add your name in support of the No One Is Above the Law Amendment today?
The Supreme Court’s dangerous ruling on July 1st went against accountability, the rule of law, and our Constitution.
And, in order to shield presidents from accountability, the Supreme Court further damaged its reputation and newly emboldened the forces behind the January 6th insurrection to conspire against any future election that doesn’t go their way.
This is bigger than any one case or any one president – accountability for all Americans is a central pillar of our democracy. We must speak out boldly in this moment – and the best way to do that is for Congress to quickly pass this constitutional amendment.
Add your name if you agree: NO American is above the law, not even former presidents >>
Thanks for all you do,
