Election Officials Keep Our Elections Safe and Secure


Election officials are vital to our democracy. These everyday Americans undergo extensive training to make sure the necessary rules and laws are followed as they impartially conduct elections. They are our friends and neighbors, and they consistently dedicate long hours before, during and after Election Day to ensure our elections are safe, secure and accurate. 

In recent years, however, these individuals, who have spent their careers safeguarding the electoral process, have faced unprecedented levels of threats, harassment and intimidation.   

Campaign Legal Center (CLC) held an event recently to hear from election officials about what they are focused on between now and when voting begins in their states for the general election. They also shared more about the tried-and-tested systems in place to make sure votes are cast fairly and counted correctly.

CLC hosted former Federal Election Commission (FEC) senior attorneys, a former FEC commissioner and one of the leading journalists covering the agency to explore the impact of the FEC taking steps backward in the fight to regulate political spending. Voters have a right to know who is contributing to the campaigns, political parties and other political committees that seek to influence their vote.
