**THE FORUM DAILY**
About half of agricultural workers in the U.S. are undocumented immigrants, and Donald Trump's mass deportation plan would cause a huge problem for America's farmers, reports Alan Guebert of Farmer's Advance [link removed].??
States such as Wisconsin and California could be especially hard-hit. In the dairy industry alone, "Immigrant labor accounts for 51 percent of all dairy labor, and dairies that employ immigrant labor produce 79 percent of the U.S. milk supply," according to the National Milk Producers Federation.??
Guebert also highlights how mass deportation could lead to lost jobs for American workers.??
Beyond economic effects, mass deportation would cause chaos and terrorization, J.D. Long Garc??a writes in America Magazine [link removed]. Dylan Corbett, executive director of Hope Border Institute in El Paso, Texas, said such a plan would "mean the division of families, it would mean fear and constant anxiety for families with children. It would represent a real attack on the family and our community. It would rip us apart."??
Separately, George Mason University researcher Christine McDaniel??writes in The Hill [link removed] about how better trade policy could help address root causes of migration.??

According to the report,??six states, including California, Texas and Florida, collected at least $1 billion apiece.????
**PROTECTION** - Undocumented immigrants who assist with government investigations of labor abuse now have up to four years of protection from deportation, reports Sarah Betancourt of WGBH [link removed]. "All workers, regardless of their immigration status, deserve protection from workplace violations and exploitation," said Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Campbell.??
**'MORAL DUTY'** - The U.K. government has opened applications to reunite Afghan families separated during the August 2021 evacuation, Adina Campbell and Becky Morton report for the BBC [link removed]. "It is our moral duty to ensure that families who were tragically separated are reunited and are not left at the mercy of the Taliban," said Immigration and Citizenship Minister Seema Malhotra.??

**FARMERS** - Immigrant farm owners looking for federal grants face language and other barriers, reports Isa Luzarraga of Iowa Public Radio [link removed]. Nonprofits such as The Heartland Regional Food Business Center are stepping up to fill gaps. "I want to follow my own path, growing food and taking care of people," said Sandro Lopes of David City, Nebraska, who came to the U.S. from Brazil in 2015.??
