John— In addition to drafting policies and defending gun laws in court, our attorneys track and analyze hundreds of gun bills as they move through state legislatures across the country. I'm happy to report that a little more than halfway through 2024, over a dozen states have passed new gun safety laws. We’ve seen a renewed focus on gun violence prevention in states that had been quiet in recent years: Maine expanded background checks and adopted waiting periods, while Massachusetts passed a major gun safety package, its first significant gun legislation in five years. [ [link removed] ]We need your help to keep fighting for gun safety. Can you chip in to show your support? Maryland became the ninth state to pass a gun industry accountability law, a win our attorneys were heavily involved in. In addition, many states—like Colorado, New Mexico, Massachusetts, and Vermont—passed laws to prevent armed political intimidation, including banning guns at polling places and government buildings. The gun lobby, however, continues to push its extremist agenda. South Carolina and Louisiana both passed dangerous permitless carry laws. Republicans in the Florida House continued their attempts to repeal gun safety laws put in place after the Parkland shooting, but they were ultimately defeated by a joint effort of our team and local gun safety advocates. Our attorneys are working hard to ensure we do, and we’re fortunate to have you fighting alongside us. Thank you for your support.
