John, Republicans are hell-bent on cutting funding for K-12 public education. In fact, it seems like they’re seeking to eliminate it.
Republicans just proposed a new spending bill, outlining drastic cuts to Department of Education funding — allocating just $11 billion to public schools for the 2025 school year. That’s 14% less than the DoE received for public education funding for the 2024 school year, and public schools have already been struggling.
These egregious cuts would have a huge and disastrous impact on public schools nationwide, particularly those that receive Title 1 Grants to better serve low-income students.
Cutting public school funding will undoubtedly widen the achievement gap between low-income and high-income school-aged children. It will put even more financial pressure on teachers, who already struggle with huge class sizes, low salaries, and a lack of resources. It will cause students’ test scores to suffer and their future opportunities could become limited.
We can’t let this happen. We must prioritize the education of our future leaders. Sign our petition to denounce Republicans’ attacks on public education.
The GOP’s proposed funding slash would also remove vital mental health support from public schools, eliminate funding for English Language Acquisition and English as a Second Language programs, limit teacher training opportunities, and cut programs designed to help students reach post-secondary education.
Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D) of Connecticut has denounced this proposed spending cut. “Republicans are in the midst of a full-scale attempt to eliminate public education that makes the American Dream possible,” She believes that these cuts would limit “support for children in K-12 elementary schools, threatening the future of an entire generation.”
We are joining up with Democrats in Congress as they fight back to protect our students. They need our help to keep the pressure on.

Thank you,
Democratic Values
