In the wake of controversy that erupted earlier this week over the Harris campaign's uncertain support for the child tax credit (CTC), Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) announced Monday that he will force a vote before Congress's August recess on a piece of legislation he touted as an "expansion" of the CTC. But experts say the bill is in reality a vast expansion of the welfare state that, among other things, subsidizes single parenthood and penalizes marriage. |

Political demonstrations in Venezuela turned violent this week, resulting in at least 16 deaths since Sunday's presidential election. After the opposition candidate claimed a landslide victory, the National Electoral Council controlled by socialist dictator Nicolas Maduro declared Maduro the victor with 51% of the vote. When supporters of the opposition turned out in force to protest this decision, Maduro turned out the military to suppress them with force. |

Former President Donald Trump is calling out Vice President Kamala Harris for her record of anti-Catholic rhetoric and policy. In a speech last week at Turning Point Action's Believers Summit, Trump accused Harris and the Democratic Party of targeting American Catholics, quipping that "somebody doesn't like Catholics in that administration." Referring to President Joe Biden, Trump added, "I don't think it's Biden, because I don't think he has any idea what the hell he's doing." |
