PRAF has joined over 30 international organizations and experts calling on governments to take immediate action against the practice of assisted suicide for individuals with eating disorders. Together, we’re urging governments to take immediate action to end this practice, which undermines decades of research on effective treatment and endangers lives. People with eating disorders need timely and effective treatment, not lethal medications.

Safeguards Are Not Effective

"Subtle coercion to death could replace medical treatment. The disabled require societal empathy and resources; they often have difficulty speaking for themselves and defending against the slings and arrows of bureaucracy. No safeguard can substitute for acknowledging human dignity when spiritual, cultural and religious understanding disappears."
