Community Mourns Amidst Misinformation and Rising Tensions

The horrific murders of young girls in Southport have moved the entire nation. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.

As if the people of Southport have not suffered enough, we witness shocking scenes of far-right rioters running amok outside a mosque in Southport, hurling stones, shouting Islamophobic abuse, and setting fire to police vans.

This began with a false rumour on the internet, stoked by misinformation from a Russian news site, which wrongfully associated the crime with Muslims.

Supported Free School Meals for All with No Child Left Behind UK

On July 23, we gathered at Parliament Square alongside No Child Left Behind UK, advocating for Free School Meals for All.

We proudly stand with a coalition of 300 groups supporting this cause.

Currently, 4.3 million people in the UK live in poverty, with 1 in 3 pupils relying on free school meals. Additionally, 9 in 10 parents support the initiative. We urge the government to provide Free School Meals for all children.

Engaging with Local Communities and Historic Mosques

Our leadership team visited the home of our Secretary-General and our Scottish affiliates, including the Muslim Council of Scotland.

We toured Glasgow Central Mosque, learning about its history and its significant role in the community.

Discussions with the mosque's chair highlighted its vital services, such as support for local refugee groups, a food bank, health initiatives, and elderly care.
