Earlier this week President Trump fired Rick Bright, who was
leading the federal agency tasked with developing a vaccine for
coronavirus.

Dr. Bright was fired because he refused to recommend
hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID-19 despite the lack of studies
proving its efficacy and early indications of increased
mortality. Dr. Bright has announced he will be filing a
whistleblower complaint against the Trump Administration.

The Senate needs to investigate Dr. Bright's firing and the
Administration's actions to encourage the use of unproven drugs.
I am also calling on the Inspector General of the Department of
Health and Human Services to launch an inquiry into what
happened.

This dangerous pattern of trying to silence top health experts
in favor of promoting politically motivated messages and 'quack'
ideas is getting worse daily.

Yesterday on national TV Trump suggested that scientists explore
inserting DISINFECTANT into the bodies of individuals with
coronavirus to clear them from the disease -- and implied that
Americans might try this strategy themselves!

The Trump Administration's malpractice has already led to
unnecessary deaths and extended the length and pain of the
pandemic in our country.
