As the coronavirus continues to affect every aspect of our society, we must come together to protect one of our nation’s most important institutions. The USPS employs more than 500,000 hard working Americans who provide critical services to their neighbors in every corner of the country. Millions more Americans depend on the postal service to receive essential goods like prescription drugs, Social Security benefits, news, bills, other supplies, and yes, even mail-in ballots. I am troubled by reports that some don’t want to fully fund USPS because they’re worried about people voting from home during this pandemic. I was disturbed by President Trump’s comments regarding vote by mail when he said “you’d never have a Republican elected in this country again.”
Now is not the time to play politics with people’s livelihoods. I’m grateful for our postal workers and you can damn sure bet I’ll do whatever it takes to fight back against the Trump administration’s games and make sure our government funds the USPS. Thanks for joining me. — Jon |
