Oyate friends and family,
We have so much to celebrate and look forward to this summer at Oyate Group:
* Our Beyond Rising 2024 summer program kicked off this month with 50 participants, our largest cohort to date
* Our Rise Leadership students, who just completed the pilot program, are broadening their horizons in Costa Rica and Panama
* Our Brandon Hendricks Scholarship recipients for 2024 have been selected and will officially be announced soon
Congratulations Laila Ayala
This summer is made even more special by the recent achievements of our very own Laila Ayala – a community leader and an award-winning student whose recognitions include the Triple ‘C’ Award from the Attorney General’s office and the Ronald Reagan Leadership Medal. Please join us in congratulating Laila on graduating as a salutatorian from Comp Sci High and on her acceptance to Dartmouth College, her dream school!
Our team members, Jason and Alexander, had the honor of attending Laila’s graduation in June and hearing her speech addressed to her fellow graduates, staff and families. It was a full-circle moment that echoed back to the first time we met Laila as judges for her presentation at her school’s computer science competition. It was then and there that we knew we needed her on our team, and the rest is history.
We are so excited for Laila’s new chapter at Dartmouth College. We are proud of you, Laila!

As July comes to a close, we also want to share exciting upcoming events for August:
Rising Restaurateur’s Winners Ceremony – Monday, August 5, 2024
* Thirty local restaurant owners across the city were selected as Rising Restaurateur’s inaugural recipients and will each receive a microgrant of $6,500 to support their day-to-day business operations and staff.
* Sandra Jaquez, president of the New York State Latino Restaurant Bar and Lounge Association (NYSLRBLA), will host the closed ceremony at her restaurant, Il Sole.
* Thank you, Grubhub and NYSLRBLA, for joining Oyate Group in this partnership. We look forward to our continued work in uplifting local restaurateurs, the backbone of our NYC economy!
Annual Backpack Giveaway – Thursday, August 22, 2024
* We invite families with children in pre-K to elementary school to our annual backpack and sneaker giveaway at Oyate Group: 276 Grand Concourse, Bronx, NY 10451
* We’ll be giving away up to 500 backpacks and a limited quantity of sneakers for children Pre-K to 5.
