Adam Schiff, Liz Cheney, and I stood up to Trump when he abused the powers
of his office.

He incited a violent insurrection on the Capitol on January 6, 2021 to
prevent the congressional certification of the 2020 election.

When he did, Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy begged Trump to call
off the mob’s attack, telling the president the mob was “trying to f— kill
me.”

Trump told him, “Well Kevin, I guess these people are more upset about the
election than you are.”

What kind of a president does that? What kind of a leader says that?

And when McCarthy buckled to Trump’s pressure, refusing to form a
bipartisan committee to investigate the attack, I was willing to work with
Democrats like Adam to find out the truth.

Now we face an even greater challenge — not only the threat of Trump, but
his enablers up and down the ranks of the Republican Party who are running
this November.

Republican megadonors in Trump’s thrall will spend any amount to defeat
Adam Schiff and anyone willing to hold their feet to the fire in November.
And our democracy may not be able to withstand what a second Trump
presidency could unleash.

That is why I am doing what I never could have imagined before — asking a
nation of Democrats and independents to stand with me, an anti-Trump
Republican, and stop this MAGA extremist threat to our democracy before
it’s too late.
