Especially during a pandemic

[[link removed]]Dear John,

Communities along the Upper Mississippi may soon need to manage two catastophes
at once. As the cornavirus continues to put cities and town in lockdown, our new
climate reality puts people, habitat, and infrastructure along the river at a
severe risk.

The Upper Mississippi River flood risk management strategy essentially relies on
temporary flood defenses built largely by volunteers with the goal of keeping
the river out of its floodplain. In other words, everyone is left scrambling to
fend for themselves. Understandably, this is a difficult strategy to execute
without serious health risks.

Don't leave communities along the river to fend for themselves. Tell the
Governor they need to have a contagion control plan.

Hundreds of years of shortsighted floodplain and watershed development decisions
along the Mississippi River have put millions of people and their property at
risk. And flooding doesn’t stop just because people are sick and money is stretched
thin.

The dual COVID-19 and Mississippi River flood disasters require a special
response. Please help protect
[[link removed]] the people responding to flood threats amidst the COVID-19 pandemic by securing
a special mission assignment for the US Army Corps of Engineers to provide
supplemental flood fight assistance.

Take Action Today!!

We can't rely soley on sandbags and good luck anymore.
