Hi John We are shocked by the senseless attack in Southport on Monday on a group of children and their parents simply enjoying their school holiday. While many gathered for a peaceful vigil, others in Southport attacked police with fireworks and rocks, chanted Islamophobic slogans, and targeted a mosque. Far right misinformation fuelled the chaos, feeding unverified narratives about the culprit, their history and their motivations, with figures like Andrew Tate and Tommy Robinson stoking divisions on social media almost immediately after the attack. This escalation is part of a disturbing pattern. Less than two weeks ago, disorder in Leeds was mischaracterised by Nigel Farage was the “politics of the subcontinent”. We are once again seeing far-right actors exploiting tragic events to push their hateful agendas. Communities are paying the price as this rhetoric not only compromises the safety of Muslims and other minority groups, but all communities across the country. People in Southport came together to condemn last night’s violence, support the victims and clean up the mess. But they must not be left to deal with this alone. The UK needs a strategy that prioritises cohesion and fixes the neglect of the previous Government. John, we need your help to make a change. Please join us in urging MPs to prioritise cohesion and support Southport and other communities facing similar challenges. We have drafted an email that we ask to send to your MP.
