WHAT’S NEXT: I
also wanted to give you a heads up that our next Primary Buzz
Discussion is just around the corner. John Opdycke will be talking
with Chloe Akers–Founder and CEO of The Best of Tennessee, a nonprofit focused on engaging and
educating Tennesseans who are disillusioned and disenfranchised by the
current political system.
Akers just wrote a new piece in The
Tennessean encouraging
Tennessee voters to not be intimidated by party leaders and
Tennessee’s new law that declares that only “bona fide” party members
can participate in primaries. REMINDER: Tennessee has nonpartisan voter
registration and open primaries–this law is nothing more than voter
intimidation aimed at scaring voters out of participating in the only
meaningful elections in the state.
We’ll be sending out invites for
that call soon–keep an eye out! It’s going to be a good
one.
FINALLY: We want to thank everyone that
has given to our campaign ending tonight at midnight. Closed primaries are the largest form of
voter suppression in America today and our success at building an
environment to get open primary initiatives on the 2024 ballot in 6
states and 1 city is only because of supporters like you–we have the
independence and the fortitude to truly movement build because our
support comes from the people.
If
you haven’t given yet: please consider making a donation
today.
Thank you,
Russell Daniels, Digital
Director
