NCOA Affirms Commitment to Elevating the Work of Senior Centers

John,

Over 50 years ago, NCOA was the first to recognize the important role senior centers play in enabling older adults to stay active, healthy, and connected. This year, as more than 11,000 Americans turn 65 every day, these vital community hubs are more relevant than ever in ensuring we all can age well.
In advance of the 17th annual National Senior Center Month that starts on September 1, we affirm our commitment to elevating the vital work of senior centers as they serve a rapidly growing and evolving population of older Americans.

In 1970, NCOA formed the National Institute of Senior Centers [[link removed]] to support the growth and advancement of senior centers and the professionals who run them. Today, NISC Affiliate senior centers are on the cutting edge of a national movement to modernize senior centers for the current and next generation of older adults. Members share best practices and innovations, advocate on behalf of the older adults they serve, and build their leadership in the field.
Senior centers are a time-tested model. They know their community and what older adults need—with many serving multiple generations. NCOA commits to amplifying the voice of senior centers; supporting their evolution to meet the needs of their communities; and ensuing they get the resources, support, and visibility they need so every older adult, regardless of ZIP code, can attend a local senior center.

We invite all senior centers to join NISC [[link removed]] to advance the future of the field.

Sincerely,
Ramsey Alwin
