[[link removed]] Hexane: The Chemical Solvent Seeping Into Your Food Without You Knowing
A byproduct of petroleum, hexane is considered an additive by the FDA, and used as a “processing aid” in the extraction of industrial oils, including good ol’ olive. Cost is low and efficiency is high—unless you’re considering your health and the well-being of the environment. Though trace amounts of this synthetic chemical solvent can be found in many snack food products, and plenty of brands of oils on the grocery shelf, you will never see it written on the list of ingredients. Learn what you can do to avoid hexane—at home, in restaurants, and cafe hot bars.

[[link removed]] Biodynamic Farming: A Cornucopia of Interconnection
Because biodynamic agriculture has spiritual aspects, does not make it “woo-woo.” It may be off the beaten path for some, while you may find it rich and rewarding. Farms have a closed feedback loop where one element, such as nourishing the soil with specific time-honored practices, feeds into the next. Harvests may be drawn from lunar cycle plantings, and the farm must be fully organic to receive biodynamic certification. In addition, at least 50% of what the animals eat must be grown on the farm. This description merely touches on the topic, as there are many more unique perspectives based on these principles.

[[link removed]] Observing Cortisol: How Unmanaged Levels Directly Affect Your Mental Health
If you are affected by chronic stress, you know how overwhelming it can be. While external stressors cannot always be changed on a dime, stress-reduction practices can be learned. Cortisol, known as the “fight or flight” hormone, is triggered by your stress responses, and is directly linked to your emotional and physical health. A gentle rise in cortisol is a normal physiological occurrence, especially first thing in the morning. But elevated cortisol levels occurring frequently are not. A host of resources are given to help you manage this issue.

[[link removed]] The Changing Parameters of Vaccines: Navigating a Narrative that Protects Big Pharma
The definition of a vaccine in 2020 was different than today’s version. In 2020, the CDC’s explanation included, “to produce immunity to a disease; to protect against that disease.” Today’s translation, according to the CDC, is to “stimulate the body’s immune response against disease.” The subtle but substantial twist of meaning has played into the expanding field of “therapeutic” vaccines. Now, for acne, allergies, drug addiction, or particular cancers, you may be offered a vaccination. It is unknown if your vaccine will be followed by boosters, or for how long you’ll need to receive them.

During the second half of July 2024, AVFCA brought awareness to specific observance days by sharing our original stories that matched these themes:
National Simplicity Day : “Circadian Rhythm: What Happens When Your Body Is "Off Time”
Research shows how and when you sleep and wake up directly affects your physical and mental health. This includes the prevention of type 2 diabetes, cancer, and depression. Circadian rhythm is your body’s “time clock,”—one that you can influence positively by taking just a few critical steps toward your sleep hygiene. [link removed] [[link removed]]
Plastic-Free July : “Forever Chemicals on Temporary Surfaces: Examining Artificial Turf”
Plastic, synthetic turf and conventional, chemically-treated grass each have issues concerning the health of land and humans, including endocrine disruption and PFAS (forever chemicals). Thankfully, these are not the only options. Rather, you can advocate for eco-friendly, organic, naturally-managed healthy grass fields and play areas. [link removed] [[link removed]]
Our team also reads hundreds of articles each week, and those of interest are shared on our social media platforms. However, once or twice a week, our team reads an article that is profound or shares a perspective that is new or from an expert that AVFCA feels should be highlighted. These articles are shared on our Substack.
