In the upcoming September 2024 issue, the Outlook will take on a contentious topic: reparations.

People are quick to get defensive when harm-doing is brought to light and they feel implicated. But the goal of reparative work is healing and transformation.

All benefit from honestly acknowledging what is broken and then working towards repair. Broken relationships, broken systems and structures, affect and oppress us all.

In his "Letter from a Birmingham Jail," Martin Luther King Jr. reminded us, “We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”

This special issue of the Outlook will highlight the important work of reparations and its goal of transformative healing for all — a goal we can and should embrace.
