Motherhood saved Liberty's life.
The Wagyu cow was in the most terrifying place imaginable when she gave birth to her daughter, Indigo: the slaughterhouse. But seeing the newborn calf, the president and CEO of Manning Beef decided that she deserved a chance-and agreed to spare Liberty and Indigo's lives.
Enter Joaquin Phoenix. Just one day after winning his Academy Award, the actor and activist rescued the pair and helped bring them to Farm Sanctuary, where they are now safe and sound.
At Farm Sanctuary, we know that when given the opportunity, cows like Liberty make devoted mothers, bonding with their children for life. Thanks to the actions of Joaquin and everyone else who collaborated on this rescue, millions of people will now be able to witness the love between a mother cow and her calf, many for the first time.
This Mother's Day, give a gift that keeps families like Liberty and Indigo together.
