Der Wald

The German Film Office’s present eight recent films that evoke what lies beneath the tree canopy. The forest can create a comfort zone that separates its residents from the upheavals of modernity (Wood and Water), societal norms (The Trouble with Being Born), or grief (Alaska). Discovering the forest’s secrets can evoke childish joy (Lene and the Forest Spirits) or horror (Sleep, The Silent Forest). In times of climate change, the forest is both a refuge and a danger (Afire). It is also a natural resource that can be exploited for profit (Lonely Oaks).
