Dear Ward 8 Residents,
As we continue to combat the spread of the coronavirus, I want to stress the need to comply with the stay-home order. I understand these are stressful times, so I encourage residents to seek the advice of mental health professionals.
Fear and anxiety about the virus can be overwhelming and cause strong emotions in adults and children. Coping with stress will make you, the people you care about, and your community stronger. Providers at the DC Department of Behavioral Health are prepared to take phone calls from residents that are distressed, feeling worried, or need to connect with a behavioral health provider.
Stay strong DC and we will get through this together.
Regards,
Trayon White, Sr.
Councilmember, Ward 8

Mayor Muriel Bowser established the DC Contact Trace Force to hire hundreds of additional tracers at DC Health. DC Health currently has about 65 contact tracers, and about 70% of confirmed cases have been traced. The Force is in the process of increasing that team to about 200 tracers, with up to an additional 700 tracers to be hired through Phase One of re-opening the District.

Uber Announces 20,000 Free Rides for D.C. Healthcare Workers on the Front Line of COVID-19 Pandemic
New partnership with the D.C. Mayor’s Office will assist public health employees and survivors of domestic abuse
WASHINGTON -- Today, Uber announced a new initiative in partnership with D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser’s Office to provide 20,000 free rides for front line healthcare workers in the District. In addition, Uber also announced the company will be donating 1,000 free rides to the DC Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
Public transportation options for front line workers have shrunk due to limited transit schedules that are in place to prevent the spread of the virus. Uber is partnering with the District to provide free rides (up to $25) to healthcare workers at the 13 hospitals that are part of the DC Hospital Association, including Children's National, Medstar Georgetown, and George Washington University Hospital.
