We are just two days from our recount that is set to begin at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 1.
The recount will be held at one central location in every one of the 24 counties and cities across the 5th District. We will have observers present at every location during the recount, and the order from the Chief Judge in Goochland permitted us to provide input on the selection of the election officials who will be conducting the recount. This week, we have sent observers to the logic and accuracy testing and programming for the machines that will be used in the recount. We are doing everything we can to ensure that this is a transparent and accurate recount.
We have had many notes of encouragement from across the 5th District, the Commonwealth, and the entire country. Our team is so grateful for the outpouring of support. We have received hundreds of small, medium, and larger donations to help us fully fund this recount effort. It is only because of the financial support of friends like you that we are able to fund this recount effort.
My opponent continues to remain silent on the mail-in ballot and drop-box problems we have in Virginia. He has refused to acknowledge what you and I already know—the drop boxes create a lack of security and are a burden for the registrar’s offices, while the mail-in ballot process is unreliable and fraught with all kinds of issues.
We have received numerous affidavits from voters stating that their mail ballots were never received, and there has been no remedy provided for them to have their vote counted. We have recordings of election officials acknowledging that drop boxes were not properly emptied as required when the polls closed at 7 p.m. on June 18, but were instead left unattended and unprotected for days after Election Day.
