Review of county's Critical Areas Ordinance update slated for special Aug. 8 meeting in Suquamish
County residents interested in critical environmental areas are invited and encouraged to attend a special meeting of the Suquamish Community Advisory Council from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8 at the Suquamish United Church of Christ, 18732 Division St. NE (**new meeting location**). Staff from the Kitsap County Department of Community Development will review the timeline for the Critical Areas Ordinance (CAO) update and public comment period.
Critical areas are considered land with natural features that need to be protected such as wetlands, aquifers, streams and other wildlife habitat, and geologically hazardous or frequently flooded areas. A draft of the CAO is available for review and comments are being accepted through Aug. 26, 2024. Find the draft and other information at kcowa.us/cao.
The meeting also features a brief presentation on the Kitsap County Public Works Sewer Utility Division's proposed Liquid and Hauled Waste Upgrades Project at the Central Kitsap Treatment Plant in Brownsville. There will be a related informational meeting on the project from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 5 at the Kitsap County Commissioner’s Chambers at 619 Division St., Port Orchard. Suquamish Community Picnic coming up Aug. 10 in Legacy Park
The Suquamish Community Advisory Council hosts the annual Suquamish Community Picnic from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10 in Legacy Park, located on South Street between Division Street and Suquamish Way. Bring your family, neighbors, friends and co-workers - and a dish to share! Hot dogs, beverages, chips, paper plates and utensils will be provided. This family-friendly event is a great opportunity to celebrate the Suquamish community. Everyone is welcome!.
