Dear Friend,
As of today, thanks to Nicola Willis, you
can keep just a little bit more of what you earn with tax
thresholds changing for the first time in 14 years.
14 years is a long time!
The staff insisted I find a photo
from 14 years ago – I was 24 (and living it up in Germany on student
exchange). How I've aged...
What were you doing 14 years
ago, Friend?
But Nicola Willis has delivered only the entrée
While a bit of tax relief is more than welcome right
now, the fact is that it only compensates for half of the 'fiscal
drag' of 14 years of inflation pushing workers into higher tax
brackets.
Nicola Willis needed to deliver $49/week
for the average worker just to reverse the stealth tax hikes caused by
inflation since thresholds were last adjusted in 2010.
The
package that comes into effect today delivers just half that –
slightly over $24 per week for someone on the average income without
dependents. It’s not real tax relief, it’s shortchanging New
Zealanders.
The Taxpayers' Union will be working to ensure
Nicola Willis cuts government waste so that the main meal can be
served - and New Zealanders can get ahead.
Friend, high-tax societies
with too much of the economy run by bureaucrats don't tend to be
prosperous. We need the Government to get the books back into shape
and get real about reform and growing the economy. Right now, the
population is growing much faster than the economy. Our GDP per capita
- the best measure of long term prosperity - is going
backwards.
I hope you will support the Taxpayers' Union so we don't
have to wait another 14 years for tax relief.

While we appreciate that not everyone is in a position to donate
monthly to the Taxpayers' Union, even with this long overdue tax
relief, you
can join as a member of the Taxpayers' Union for as little as $25 per
year here.
Only with your support can we fight to ensure the
Government tackles wasteful spending, delivers a main course of tax
relief, and secures a better economy for our kids'
generation.
Thank you for your support.
