Today is the 200th day of 2024 – but we’ve already had 301 mass shootings this year alone.

Playgrounds. Basketball courts. Parades. Schools. Grocery stores. Our most vital community spaces have all been touched by insensible tragedy.

Young activists have been leading the nationwide cry to end gun violence for years, but NRA-funded Republican lawmakers are continuing to BLOCK lifesaving bills to combat mass shootings by permanently banning assault weapons.

Despite what ultra-conservative Republicans have to say, a national ban on assault weapons is not some brand-new or radical idea.

President Bill Clinton signed the Federal Assault Weapons Ban into law in 1994 – and for 10 years, the manufacture and sale of assault weapons were prohibited, with federal courts blocking any challenges to the ban.

But in 2004, the Bush Administration and Republican majorities in Congress refused to renew the ban, directly leading to the uptick in fatal mass shootings that we’ve borne witness to over the past two decades.

Friend, our leaders have come together to ban assault weapons before – and it’s past time that this lifesaving ban goes into action for good.
