I am writing with a CRUCIAL WARNING about An Act Relating to Criminal Offenses & Commercial Sexual Activity (H. 7165). It will undermine the enforcement of laws against pimps, traffickers, and men who buy sex.

This bill would undermine the enforcement of laws against pimps, traffickers, and men who buy sex. This bill will grant immunity from citation, arrest, or prosecution to anyone who is the victim of a crime, or witnesses a crime. However, the bill also allows a witness to sue a law enforcement officer if the officer arrests someone who should have protection under the law – including sex buyers. This liability will significantly impede officers from making decisions about arresting people engaged in criminal activity. 

We can’t let Rhode Island return to the days when there was nothing law enforcement could do to stop prostitution or sex trafficking. Please take action to tell your legislators to vote NO on H. 7165
