The original Voting Rights Act stands as one of the most important laws ever passed in American history and, even neutered, is still a critical protection against discrimination in our democracy. With certain courts are still trying to dismantle it piece by piece, we need states to act and protect our right to vote.
We're not the only ones who see it this way. “Passage of a state voting rights act will have an important deterrent effect and enshrine provisions to prevent new violations from occurring in the first instance,” said Martin Harris of the Legal Defense Fund. “Enshrining these provisions into law will further strengthen Michigan’s democracy for all voters and ensure that voters of color have robust protections.”
Governors and state legislatures can act to help solve the voting rights crisis. It's up to us to make sure they do their jobs.
John, we need to spread laws like this around the country, from Arizona to Nevada to Georgia. Pitch in $25 or whatever you can today to help expand ballot access and make every vote count nationwide! >>
