Your Monthly Climate Digest

Listening sessions, vote no on Aug. 13, endorsements, and more

[[link removed]]

Hi John,

People across our state are using the benefits from Pres. Biden’s Affordable Clean Energy Plan to make clean energy improvements to their homes. We’re excited to be capturing their stories so more people can get excited about the possibilities. Check out our collection of stories here >>> [[link removed]]

I recently started my new role at Wisconsin Conservation Voters as the visual storytelling manager. I’ve had the pleasure of traveling around the state to film people like Jacqui Guthrie in Stevens Point [[link removed]] and Jeff Rohlinger in Fitchburg [[link removed]] and learn about the improvements they made to their homes.

You can be part of the climate solution and save money on your home improvements. Find the benefits available to you here >>> [[link removed]]

Jacqui Guthrie is pumped about her new heat pump [[link removed]] – you could get one too!

We have been hosting community listening sessions to hear from you.

Our team has traveled from Milwaukee to Stevens Point to the Fox Valley to the Menominee Reservation and more to hear from community members about the issues that matter most to them.

The values of the communities we visit lead our work. Thanks to the great feedback we’ve received from our listening sessions, our team will be able to make a comprehensive list for the governor with the priorities we want to see included in the 2025-26 Wisconsin State Budget. Learn more about the process here. [[link removed]]

You can still share your feedback!

Tonight, July 30, we will host a listening session in Green Bay – RSVP here >>> [[link removed]]
Join us on Aug. 6 in Wauwatosa (Milwaukee area) - RSVP here >>> [[link removed]]
Can’t attend in-person? Share your feedback online here >>> [[link removed]]

Celebrating Our Conservation Champions

Conservation Champions are legislators that scored a perfect 100 percent by voting for clean energy, clean water, and a healthy democracy. We gathered in Madison and Milwaukee to honor and thank some of these champions for their commitment and hard work. We appreciate all our members and coalition partners who came out to celebrate these leaders, surrounded by nature, in some of our finest public parks.

As we look to the future and make our voting plan for the Aug. 13 and Nov. 5 elections, consider taking another look at the 2023-2024 Conservation Scorecard [[link removed]] before you vote. Join us in thanking our senators and representatives for their great work and encourage those returning in 2025 to keep it up!

Vote No on Aug. 13 on questions 1 & 2

Two upcoming referendums threaten our checks and balances in the Wisconsin State Constitution. Vote NO and NO on questions 1 & 2 on the Aug. 13 ballot.

Political insiders and special interests added two deliberately confusing constitutional amendments to the August ballot. These ballots would eliminate checks and balances, block emergency response funding, and create more gridlock in the legislature. You have the power to stop this extreme power grab by voting NO on both constitutional amendments.

When you vote, make sure to flip your ballot! These two amendments appear on the back of many ballots. Learn more on our WI Votes No website here >>> [[link removed]]

Our next round of endorsements are out!

Check out all our endorsed candidates here >>> [[link removed]]

We recently released our latest slate of endorsements for state legislature candidates. They are an inspiring bunch! The full lists for both the primary and the general elections are published on our website [[link removed]] , but here are just a few for you to meet:

Yee Leng Xiong for Assembly District 85
Yee Leng Xiong is running to represent the new, more competitive AD 85 (Wausau area), the tipping-point seat to win a pro-conservation majority in the assembly. Yee Leng Xiong says addressing PFAS contamination and releasing the $125 million in PFAS remediation funding is one of his top conservation priorities. He’s also a strong supporter of Wisconsin’s Clean Energy Plan.

LuAnn Bird for Assembly District 61
LuAnn Bird is running to represent the highly competitive AD 61 west of Milwaukee. Now retired, she brings a lifetime of leadership experience, including serving as the Executive Director of the League of Women Voters of Wisconsin. If elected, she will work for environmental protections and she will be a dedicated advocate for protecting voting rights and getting rid of hurdles that make it difficult for disabled Wisconsinites to cast their ballots.

Angela Stroud for Assembly District 73
Up north, Angela Stroud is running to represent the new 73rd district. If she wins her primary on Aug. 13, she’ll be highly favored to win the general election under the new maps.
“Protecting Lake Superior is the top issue in my campaign, because if the people of the 73rd Assembly District don’t protect the lake, who will?” she says. Stroud supports robust measures to protect Wisconsin’s water from PFAS, oil pipelines, CAFOs and other sources of pollution, as well as long-term funding for the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Fund.
We’ll keep updating our elections pages as we endorse candidates here: [[link removed]] .
