What do you want to know about climate-smart forests? No images? Click here John, We know that things in the world are far from normal right now, and life has had to look different for so many of us. One of the many changes we are all adjusting to is shifting our engagement with the people and causes that we care about into digital spaces. Even with planned in-person events having to move online, it’s been a big week for climate awareness. Wednesday marked the 50th anniversary of Earth Day and today is Arbor Day – a day to raise awareness about trees and forests, and recognize the important roles they play on our planet. Here in the Evergreen State, we see forests as a part of our collective identity. They’re where we live, play, and work, and they do so much for us. Washington’s forests are particularly good at absorbing and storing carbon and, if managed in a way that harnesses this superpower, can play a major role in our fight against the climate crisis. WCV is committed to raising awareness about climate-smart forestry and improving how we manage working forests in our state and we want to know what you want to know. Forests provide countless things for our communities and the environment. They filter our air and water, provide vital fish and wildlife habitat, prevent landslides, and store carbon for decades. Strategies that harness and strengthen these benefits to fight climate change are known as natural climate solutions. Help us better engage with supporters like you on natural climate solutions, by letting us know what you’re curious about. Climate-smart forests are key to meeting Washington’s climate commitments and protecting our communities. By managing working forests in an ecologically healthy way, we can respond to the climate crisis and improve the health and safety of our state for future generations.
