Hello Friend, Representing New Mexico’s 1st Congressional District is truly the honor of a lifetime. I am proud to get up every day and work for New Mexicans, hear your stories, and ensure the First Congressional District thrives. A lot has been going on the last few weeks and I can’t wait to share it all with you! Stood Up to Protect our Freedoms | A couple weeks ago, Republicans voted for legislation that would give household appliances more rights that Americans. I’m not joking, folks. Conservatives are more concerned about the freedom of refrigerators than the freedom to make decisions about our own bodies. They’re more concerned about our dishwashers than they are about democracy. I don’t know how they support this legislation with a straight face. I will always fight for the rights of our communities and ensure our freedoms are protected. Welcomed Rep. Mark Takano to our Veteran’s Townhall | Our Veterans' courage and dedication are deeply embedded in the fabric of our state, and it is our duty to support them when they return home. That’s why I was so honored to have Ranking Member of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee, Congressman Mark Takano, join us for a Veterans Town Hall last Friday. We heard your stories: your struggles and your triumphs, and I will take those stories back with me to D.C. and continue fighting for Veterans and their families. To every Veteran reading this: thank you for your service. You can watch a recap of the event here. Recognized the Great Work of our Interns | Interns are truly the backbone of Congressional offices, and our interns are no different! Each and every one brings a different perspective to our office and helps keep the office afloat. Our interns are the ones interacting with constituents, answering phones and questions, researching policy, and helping execute events. I’m grateful to all of our interns—past, present, and future—and I’m so excited to see where their lives take them. Celebrated an $23.9 Million Investment from the CHIPS Act | The James Webb Space Telescope. The International Space Station. Vehicles to Mars and the Moon. New Mexico’s own home-grown SolAero by Rocket Lab is helping power our exploration of space. I am so proud to have helped welcome $23.9 million in investments for Rocket Lab from the CHIPS and Science Act last week! This will bring 100 NEW manufacturing jobs to New Mexico, which means well-paying jobs and economic opportunities for our families. The future is bright in New Mexico! You can watch my recap video here. Toured the ABQ Adult Learning Center | Learning is for everyone! From our youngest learners to those returning later in life—education changes lives. The Albuquerque Adult Learning Center gives adult learners a second chance to get their high school equivalency and a couple of weeks ago, I had the chance visit and tour the facility. I’m proud to have secured $600,000 in Community Project Funding to support adult literacy and their new Solar Integrated Education & Training Program. Listened to Patients and Workers at the First Nations Community HealthSource | First Nations Community HealthSource is the hub for health care for in our communities in the International District and beyond. They help not only the urban Indigenous population, but anyone that walks through their door. Whether it’s medical care, dental, vision, or harm reduction services, First Nations is there. I recently toured their campus and their new location, which was made possible in part by $1 million in Community Project Funding to expand their behavioral health services. With these expanded services, it is estimated that First Nations will be able to serve more than 15,000 community members who are without a medical, behavioral health or dental home. I’m grateful I secured funding to help them in their mission. I spent last week in D.C., but will be back in the district this week for the August recess.
