Insurance Policy
What's covered by your homeowner insurance? 

With summer storms and flooding across the State this summer, many Minnesotans are reviewing what their homeowner insurance covers. The worst time to find out the answer is after a disaster, and Commerce has important tips for homeowners and renters. For example, did you know flooding is not covered by a typical homeowner or renter’s policy? To learn more, tune into this video with advice from Commerce's Consumer Service Center to help you understand your policy, what's covered and not covered, your deductible and steps to review your coverage.

KARE11 story on flood insurance
Few Minnesota homes protected by flood insurance

Following major flooding in Minnesota, KARE11-TV featured the Minnesota Department of Commerce in a story about how few Minnesota homes have flood insurance. Less than 11,000 homes in Minnesota have flood insurance, or about 0.5%.  With more extreme weather events, more homes are at risk of flooding. Watch the KARE11 story  [ [link removed] ]

Visit Commerce's Weights & Measures team at FarmFest Aug. 6-8

The Weights and Measures Division at the Minnesota Department of Commerce will showcase its work at an outdoor exhibit at FarmFest 2024 [ [link removed] ] this year on August 6-8 in Redwood County, MN. Weights and Measures will feature two of the division’s trucks equipped with inspection tools that staff use to test commercial scales, including those used in agriculture, such as grain hoppers and fertilizer scales, as well as gas pumps, grocery store scales and more.

Weights and Measures ensures accuracy of products sold by weight, measure or count. Commerce inspectors leave an approval sticker on each inspected device as a sign of accuracy for both customers and store owners. Mankato
Add your ideas for Home Energy Rebates Program 

The Home Energy Rebates Program in Commerce's Division of Energy Resources is seeking input from Minnesotans through public forums and comments.

 These forums aim to gather local perspectives, insights, and priorities from those who will benefit from the program, ensuring inclusivity and reaching populations often underrepresented in decision-making processes. Forums were held earlier in July in Minneapolis, St. Cloud, Fergus Falls and Bemidji. Upcoming public forum:  August 13 in Mankato [ [link removed] ]

Commerce Voids Company's Payday Loans To Minnesota Consumers and Fines Unlicensed Payday Lenders

Through a final order, the Minnesota Department of Commerce has voided any short-term consumer loans, also known as payday loans, made to Minnesotan consumers by Strategic Solution Services, Inc., who also did business as *Arrow Mountain Funding* and *Line of Credit Now*. The lender was not licensed to provide loans in Minnesota and was not complying with the state’s lending laws. Commerce also fined the company $10,000.

Nearly 2,000 solar panels atop the Eden Prairie Community Center began generating electrical power on July 10. 

Minnesota’s newest community solar garden will produce an estimated 1.3 million kilowatt-hours of energy annually, enough to power over 17,000 LED light bulbs 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for an entire year.

Eco Center

Visit Commerce’s Energy Information Center at the 2024 MN State Fair 

Grab a bag of mini donuts and walk past the Grandstand to the Eco Experience at the 2024 MN State Fair. Learn the latest updates on energy rebates, tax credits and incentives to save money while you use less and cleaner energy at the ‘Energy Information Center’ exhibit inside the Eco Experience building. 

The Eco Experience, located on the north end of the fairgrounds, at Cosgrove Street and Randall Avenue, is dedicated to interactive exhibits that present sustainability and climate solutions including programs and projects that save energy and money, green technology, renewable and traditional energy workforce development and much more. 

Visit the Energy Information Center exhibit at the Eco Experience daily from 9am – 9pm. The 2024 MN State Fair runs August 22 – September 2.
