John,

On Dec. 14, 2012, we had a lockdown in my fifth-grade science class.

After it was over, I was dropped off at my friend's house, and we watched Christmas movies and ate Christmas cookies. Their siblings talked about what had happened that day at Sandy Hook Elementary, but it didn't click with me yet – it just seemed so absurd.

Then, when I got home, my parents told me my little brother Daniel had been murdered in his first-grade classroom. I still remember screaming. I was just 10, and my 7-year-old brother was gone forever. It was so hard to understand.

I don't think people realize that after seven years, I still feel the pain of losing my brother every day. I don't want to do interviews. I don't like talking to people about this because it causes me more pain. But I force myself to take action because I feel like if I don't, then more people are going to die.

But I can't do this work alone. We all have to act, even if we don't want to.

Since you're a Sandy Hook Promise supporter, I know you're passionate about preventing gun violence, too. Even during these challenging times, our work is critical and cannot stop. I'm hoping you'll help us reach our $100,000 match goal by midnight so we can protect more children like my little brother, Daniel, from gun violence. Please, will you give right now to double your impact?

Click here to donate $10, or as much as you can, to Sandy Hook Promise before midnight. Every dollar will be matched to go twice as far toward helping protect children from gun violence.

I know the pandemic is on everyone's minds right now, but this work to prevent future tragedies can't wait or slow down. Gun violence has affected my life in every way, and I feel like if you can do something to spare someone that pain – if you can do something to spare one person from losing their life – you need to do it.

I'm doing everything in my power to put a stop to these massacres, and I hope you'll join me by helping us secure every dollar of this generous match. Thank you so much for your support.

Natalie Barden (Daniel's sister)
