Join FAUN as we once again line up at Marzigliano’s “Live Poultry” Hellhole in West New York, NJ on Saturday, August 3rd, to elevate public consciousness regarding so-called “food” animals and proactively work against those who enslave, torture and kill our feathered and fur-bearing friends for profit.

Demonstrate your love for animals by jumping in with us as we again turn our attention to the plight of helpless chickens, ducks, geese, rabbits, sheep, pigeons, turkeys, pigs, goats (etc), who are so cruelly and systematically confined, tortured, killed and sold at the “Live Markets” so pervasive in northeastern New Jersey and across New York City.

At this demonstration, we will be engaging locals on the intrinsically connected issues of animal cruelty, animal rights, environmental degradation and human health in relation to the calamitous ecocidal time-bomb of industrial-scale animal agriculture.

We'll be handing out relevant literature in English and Spanish (we have a number of Spanish speakers in the group, but amongst this predominately Latin-American community, more Spanish-fluent activists definitely wouldn't hurt).

Si hablas español, ¡ven y ayúdanos!

As always, we'll be setting up a multimedia display including video, relevant signs, an array of attention-grabbing props, a couple of actual (used) battery cages full of faux chickens and stage blood-covered instruments of butchery strewn about.

Anyone who has worked with FAUN knows we pull out all the stops and spare no quarter in getting our message across for the voiceless, and the defenseless animals trapped in the disgusting, disease-ridden pits of misery called “wet markets” are no exception.

Stand with us in our ongoing effort to illuminate Marzigliano's patrons (and the general public) on the shocking, terribly inhumane realities behind this insidious, mostly hidden and shockingly pervasive form of animal cruelty.

JOIN US in our fight for the emancipation of these sacred living beings!!!

PARKING: For those driving in and unfamiliar with the area, Bergenline Avenue is one of the main thoroughfares running through the town of West New York. Take Bergenline Avenue (from either direction) onto 53rd Street. 53rd Street is a “one way” which starts where it forms a “T” intersection with Bergenline Ave (in other words, you can’t miss it!) Once you’ve made the turn onto 53rd St, you’ll see a public parking garage not even half a block down on the left hand side.

There is PLENTY of parking here, and it is quite close to the demo location – Marzigliano’s Live Poultry is at the intersection of Bergenline Avenue and 53rd Street – and is visible from the sidewalk in front of the parking garage – it’s literally a 60-second walk from the parking garage back down 53rd to Marzigliano’s Animal Dungeon at the Bergenline / 53rd St Intersection.

**More general background on “live markets”**

In these hellish, squalid pits of animal misery, the odors of death, fear and intensive confinement are perpetual, acrid and inescapable. Live birds and other unfortunate animals are stuffed together in cages so tightly that they can barely move. Cages are stacked floor to ceiling in these filthy dungeons, so that patrons can walk in, select the animal(s) of their choice and even decide how the animal(s) will be killed and butchered, all according to their individual preferences, all for a price.

The hapless, selected victim is ripped from the squalor of his/her cage, roughly weighed like a sack of potatoes, then removed from the public area into a godforsaken "back room," where he/she is mercilessly killed in a bloody, grotesque, medieval manner (most often by severing the jugular vein or decapitation).

The broken/mutilated creature is then brought back to the one(s) who paid for him / her to be executed. He / she is then de-feathered and sliced up in accordance with the fickle palates of those who chose his/her day of death, and paid for him/her to be so ruthlessly murdered.

Could it get any more moribund, retrograde or disgusting?

**More general background on the poultry industry**

Amongst all the land-based animal species that humans exploit and kill for profit and for the satisfaction of (nothing more than) gustatory pleasure, it is common knowledge that chickens are the most widely and systematically confined, tortured and killed.
Though it's hard to conceptualize in the modern, mass-production scheme of the industrialized world, chickens were once tree-dwelling wild birds whose natural habitat was limited to certain tropical jungles of southeast Asia.

Sadly, for nothing other than the widely-savored taste of chickens' flesh and eggs, the "poultry" and egg industries have exploded exponentially worldwide, and hideously transformed these docile, gentle, beautiful birds into a big agribusiness enterprise, wherein they are reduced to nothing more than "meat machines" and "egg factories", - genetically manipulated "Frankenbirds" whose short lives are pure, unmitigated misery - and whose misery invariably ends in a brutally cruel, violent death for nothing more than human convenience, profit, or pleasure.

Each year in this country, the more than 9 billion chickens grown (not raised) for meat, a.k.a. "broilers" endure the most horribly unnatural conditions one could imagine in filthy, overcrowded confinement sheds, where they are denied all natural light and every other element essential to their fundamental health and well-being.

These creatures are genetically manipulated to maximize muscle-tissue (meat) growth, so that their legs are often incapable of supporting their unnaturally increasing body weight, resulting in lameness, arthritis and other diseases.

"Broiler" chickens are subjected to an additional array of unthinkable horrors before, a mere 45 days after birth, they are brutally killed and cut to pieces for cold hard profit, and to satisfy the perverse, voracious appetites of our species, though an infinite number of healthier, cruelty-free vegan alternatives to animal proteins are accessible to all of us in the United States today.

Egg laying hens, a.k.a "layers", have their beaks violently removed by a hot blade with no anesthesia so they don't peck each other to death from the maddening, hellish, filthy, unnatural, obscenely crowded and disease-ridden wire cages they are trapped in as they produce eggs until they are literally spent from exhaustion, calcium depletion, osteoporosis & other diseases.

After one or two years of being continuously exploited as nothing more than egg factories, "spent" hens are simply destroyed by the most economical means, or sold to be subjected to further abuses and eventually slaughtered in filthy dens of dark-age cruelty just like the one we'll be standing in front of again in West New York on Saturday, August 3rd.

The meat industry is responsible for more than 90% of animal cruelty and extirpation on this planet. Fighting against the meat industry, in whatever form, is therefore CENTRAL to winning the animal/earth liberation struggle and making this world a better place for literally billions of our voiceless friends.

Please come and help us do just that!

WE will have the signs, literature, audio-video ensemble and props essential to driving the animal liberation message home in the public sphere. All YOU need to bring is yourself and your voice to speak up for those sentient beings who cannot articulate their wish to be free and live their lives according to their own natures, not to be confined from birth, systematically tortured and horrifically killed for (nothing more than) profit and human pleasure.
