The Health Equity and Accountability Act (HEAA) was reintroduced in Congress last week. The comprehensive health equity bill sponsored by Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-HI) and Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA-12) is closely aligned with PIF’s work, including provisions that would repeal the five-year bar, strengthen language access protections, and codify the “protected areas” immigration enforcement policy. Congratulations to the bill sponsors and to PIF partners APIAHF and AAPCHO, and all the title leads who led an intensive working group process to update the legislation. PIF does much of its work through six working groups that bring partners together around issues or opportunities of shared interest: communications; community education; federal advocacy, policy and legal analysis; research; and state policy.
