TELL CONGRESS: President Biden and Vice President Harris support MAJOR Supreme Court reforms — legislation that will check the power of right-wing justices like Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito. Sign the petition: Pass a SCOTUS ethics act and term limits for the Supreme Court!
Hi, President Biden and Vice President Harris just endorsed major Supreme Court reforms to rein in the power that right-wing justices like Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito have abused for far too long.1 The policies include a SCOTUS ethics act and term limits for the Supreme Court. Biden wrote in the Washington Post that, “What is happening now is not normal, and it undermines the public’s confidence in the court’s decisions.”2 It’s not normal to grant presidents “absolute immunity” in a democracy. It’s not normal to hand over massive powers to corporations while hobbling federal regulatory powers. It’s not normal to overturn Roe v. Wade and take away reproductive freedoms from Americans. Congress must use its power to pass a binding, enforceable code of ethics for the Supreme Court and establish term limits for justices. SCOTUS rulings led by conservative justices over the last few decades threaten our rights, freedoms, and safety. The recent rulings in the Trump immunity case and Chevron bring that reality into sharper focus. If term limits were in place, Thomas and Alito likely would have been OFF the Court before they helped the right-wing majority decide these recent cases that threaten democracy and boost corporate power. If a SCOTUS ethics act were in place, Thomas and Alito could have been barred from ruling on the Trump immunity case due to conflicts of interest. They, and the other right-wing justices on the Court, could be held accountable for their long list of corruption scandals. Majorities in Congress must join the calls from Pres. Biden and VP Harris to reform the corrupt Supreme Court. Thanks for taking action, Sources:
