Dear john , I hope that you and your family are well. Last week was a busy one on Capitol Hill, as we began conducting rigorous oversight into the myriad security failures before, during, and after the attempted assassination of Donald Trump. Getting Answers The now-former Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned after her catastrophic testimony last Monday before the House Oversight Committee. Her refusal to give straightforward answers to questions from both sides of the aisle underscored the importance of the House conducting a thorough and independent investigation. I cosponsored Rep. Mike Kelly’s legislation to do just that. The House voted to establish that task force last week. It’s critical that we get answers and leave no stone unturned. TWEET: We must get answers for the American people. Secret Service Director Cheatle’s resignation was long overdue, but that doesn’t come close to solving the troubling questions that linger. We need accountability and answers, and last week marked the very start of that process. I’ll be sure to keep you updated in this newsletter and on my social media feeds. TWEET: Long overdue. In the Homeland Security Committee, I had the opportunity to question the PA State Police Commissioner, revealing that local officers were stationed in a room that had a clear vantage point of the rooftop where the shooter was positioned, but that those officers LEFT that room. Why did both of these officers leave their overwatch position? What communications occurred with Secret Service? It’s clear we have many more questions than answers at this juncture and must get to the truth. | I also had the opportunity to question FBI Director Christopher Wray last Wednesday, and gleaned some valuable information, but was still left with more questions than answers. We found out that: - Eight bullet cartridges were found on the roof.
- The shooter flew a drone over the area around 3:50 p.m.
- Three explosive devices were found.
- The remote detonators were not turned on.
- No accomplices identified currently.
- The shooter purchased a ladder, but the ladder was not found at the scene.
- The shooter visited the rally site a week before the shooting, the morning of, and the afternoon of the shooting.
| I won’t rest until we achieve full transparency and accountability in this case. You, and our country, deserve nothing less. Border Chaos If you’ve been reading this newsletter, or even following the news in general, you’ve unfortunately seen the violent crime sprees committed by illegal migrants. READ: Illegal Immigrant Shoots Police Officer You’ve also seen the fact that Chinese illegal migrant encounters at the southern border have increased by 400%. | Or the Biden-Harris app that gives a fast pass to hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants to enter the American heartland. Or the leftist policy of allowing illegal immigrants to vote. And, of course, the millions upon millions of illegal immigrants who have streamed across our border unabated. This deliberate invasion, which has been devastating for the American people, was orchestrated by three people: President Biden, Secretary Mayorkas, and Biden’s “Border Czar,” Vice President Kamala Harris. What’s worse is that the press is now trying to erase the fact that Harris was ever named Border Czar, something she even said herself. I joined a bipartisan group of my colleagues in voting to condemn the actions of Border Czar Kamala Harris. Despite the anger of the American people and numerous actions from Congress, Biden and Harris continue their extremist policies. | News on the Home Front Team Bishop recently attended the North Carolina Poultry Federation’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony to honor Sam Starnes, the owner and founder of Circle S Ranch, as he was inducted into the Poultry Hall of Fame - a well-deserved honor. I had the pleasure of welcoming the whole Starnes family and the Circle S team to Washington when their Presidential turkeys, Chocolate and Chip, were chosen for the White House turkey pardon in 2022. Sam and Frieda’s hard work, commitment and ingenuity over decades have built a strong and attractive family and a thriving and successful business at Circle S Ranch. As one of NC's leading producers, Circle S raises millions of turkeys each year. | North Carolina’s leadership in the international poultry market and Circle S Ranch’s successes are inextricably linked. I’m incredibly grateful to all our farm families for keeping North Carolina, and the country, fed and going strong. Team Bishop was also able to attend a ceremony gifting a mortgage-free home to retired Sgt. Peter Clark. Two organizations, 1776 Communities and Homes for Heroes, partnered to gift Sgt. Clark a new home in Gastonia. Our team presented a flag flown over the US Capitol and a letter of commendation to Sgt. Clark, and attend a parade of military and first responders to honor him. | Service Academy Nominations and Internship Applications We've had a great group of interns this summer.
