What's Happening in Venezuela

Last night, Dictator Maduro announced his self-proclaimed victory to the Venezuelan people. His speech was fueled by Christian nationalism, hateful rhetoric towards global leaders, and claims of victimhood. He also reintroduced his self-authored book on political strategies, which he calls the ‘7 Transformations Plan’.

Maduro's broadcasting of his electoral victory falsely implied he backed a fair and free election. However, the spectacle he created was calculated, making it seem as though the overcrowded venue represented a large majority of voters. In stark contrast, the streets were filled with devastated protesters banging pots and pans, shouting “Free Venezuela” and calling for action.

Maduro attacked those who campaigned for the opposition, labeling them “demons” intent on destabilizing democracy, while calling street protesters “terrorists” who threatened the nation’s safety. After 11 years in office, this latest win could mean 6 more years of human rights violations, extreme income inequality, and political violence.

As hateful rhetoric and corrupted nationalism rise, we must be vigilant about the dangers surrounding us. America, stand strong. Open your eyes to patterns of dictatorship: isolation, the rejection of alliances, the spread of misinformation from political leaders, and the scapegoating of minority communities. We’ve seen the worship of one political figure, the victimization of corrupt politicians, and the use of religious rhetoric in politics. We’ve witnessed enough. Trump, you will not get away with this!

While we may not fully grasp the realities faced by Venezuela, we must recognize the stakes involved in the re-composition of democracy that Project 2025 seeks to implement.

Stand with Venezuela. Hold the ultra-wealthy and corrupt politicians accountable. Stand for democracy.

Thank you for your attention on this pressing issue.
