Message from Congressman Scott Fitzgerald

Good afternoon! I hope everyone had a great weekend.

Last week was a busy final week in-session on Capitol Hill.

I had the opportunity to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as well as welcome him alongside my colleagues for a Joint Address to Congress. Mr. Netanyahu’s address was a powerful and an urgent reminder to us members of Congress and America that we must remain steadfast in our commitment to our great ally, and only democracy in the Middle East.

Prime Minister Netanyahu provided me with an important update on the country’s efforts in permanently defeating Hamas and reiterated Israel’s commitment to bringing home the hostages still held by Hamas—some of whom are American. I had an opportunity to speak to family members of hostages when I visited Israel earlier this year, and it remains one of my top commitments to see that these families are reunited with their loved ones. Hamas’s terror must be brought to an end, and I will continue to support our ally Israel to ensure this tragedy is never repeated again.

While Prime Minister Netanyahu’s visit was certainly the highlight of the week, committee and legislative activity on the floor was still busy! I sent a letter to the Fed, introduced a new bill to keep private interests of our state attorney general’s office, and helped pass a resolution to condemn VP Harris’s failing role as our nation’s border czar.

Keep reading on to dive deeper into these updates and more.

Have a great week!

Scott

Toured Generac Facility in Whitewater

I had a fantastic time touring Generac last week in Whitewater! I had a chance to tour the facility and take a look at where they make their generators, which support Americans nationwide.

Introduced a Bill to Ban Private Interest Funding for State Attorney Generals

Earlier this year, the Attorney General of Wisconsin hired a new special assistant attorney general's position on environmental litigation at an annual salary of $90,000 a year. The position is being paid for by the State Energy and Environmental Impact Center (SEEIC) at New York University Law School—which was funded by former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s charitable foundation with a $6 million grant.

Private money directly funding official government functions, like Attorney General enforcement actions, can create a conflict of interest between what is in the best interests of a private sponsor, versus what is in the best interests of the People. We saw this happen when ‘Zuckerbucks’ were funding official election proceedings in Wisconsin, and now private interests have infiltrated our state attorney’s office too.

Similar environmental fellows have been appointed in a dozen other states, and Minnesota and Virginia have recently banned this practice.

To that end, I introduced the Ensuring State Attorney General Accountability Act to keep out-of-state billionaires in check and out of our state attorney general’s office, which should work only for the people of Wisconsin, not outside climate activists.

Voted to Condemn Border Czar VP Harris’s Handling of the Southern Border

Last week, I voted to pass H.Res. 1371 which condemns Border Czar Kamala Harris for failing to secure our Northern and Southern Borders. Under Border Czar VP Kamala Harris's leadership...

  • There have been OVER 8.1 MILLION illegal immigrant encounters at our Southern Border
  • Monthly encounters have surpassed even the highest month under former President Donald J. Trump
  • There have been a record-breaking 31,077 Communist Chinese nationals encountered at the Southwest border in FY24

For the last three and half years, the Biden-Harris Administration’s failed open border policies have turned every community into a border community, jeopardizing the safety and security of every American as violent criminals and illicit drugs pour across the border and into our communities.

Joined Newsmax to Discuss USSS, FBI Director Wray, and More…

Last week I joined Newsmax to discuss a Judiciary Committee hearing I participated in with FBI Director Christopher Wray joining as a witness.

Part of this conversation included the resignation of the former Director of the Secret Service, Kimberly Cheatle. I called for Director Cheatle’s resignation early last week as it became overwhelmingly clear that the attempted assassination against President Trump could have been prevented. Not to mention, Ms. Cheatle’s deflection of responsibility was on full display at the Oversight Committee last week, where she dodged question after question—refusing to provide even a sliver of transparency or answers for the American people. While I was glad she stepped down, this certainly does not mark the end of the House’s investigative efforts into the assassination attempt. We will provide the American public with the answers they deserve.

Watch the full interview here and my Q&A with FBI Director Wray here.

That's a wrap for this week's eNewsletter! Follow me on Twitter and Facebook to stay up to date on my work for the 5th District of Wisconsin.

Sincerely,
