Dear John,
As you read this, our new ship M/V Bob Barker has been busy protecting coral, sharks, grouper, and many more species from illegal fishing in our newest campaign.
At over 3,200,000 acres, Bajos del Norte’s biodiversity maintains huge populations of fish, mollusks, and crustaceans, as well as grouper, octopus, and lobster. With YOUR support, this new Sea Shepherd campaign also protects the Alacranes Reef National Park, one of the largest coral reefs in the Western Hemisphere.
Bajos del Norte is a remote and pristine reef, accessible only by boat. Sea Shepherd’s new campaign is developing scientific protocols to document the reef’s biodiversity and health. Understanding this reef may help us identify new species and potentially unlock information about the Gulf of Mexico ecosystem. However, the remoteness of this reef makes it ripe for illegal fishing to plunder its wealth. Sea Shepherd is working with the Mexican government to conduct surveillance and with the Mexican Navy to intercept illegal fishermen.

New Store, New Merchandise, Reduced Footprint!
We are proud to launch a new chapter in Sea Shepherd’s online store, where our brand-new print-on-demand shop reduces our carbon footprint.
We have a new line of men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing in our Sea Shepherd Store.
This week, every order from our store will also fund the recovery and recycling of 1kg of ocean-bound plastic through Plastic Bank. Plastic Bank projects pay collectors to remove waste from coastal communities in places like Haiti, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Brazil. Their collectors gather plastic waste from streets, households, and informal dump sites, properly disposing of plastic waste before it ends up in the ocean. The plastic is recycled and reborn as Social Plastic to be remade into new products as part of a closed-loop supply chain.
No code is needed to participate. Shop now at shop.seashepherd.org and your order will help recover and recycle a kilogram of ocean-bound plastic - the equivalent of 50 plastic bottles.

Matching Gift Challenge At Full Speed!
Our 2024 Matching Gift Challenge is matching all gifts up to $150,000 thanks to the Ruth Stanton Foundation and an anonymous donor.
This challenge ends on July 31st and we want to extend our deepest thanks to our Direct Action Crew members and to those who have made one-time donations in support of this challenge.
If you haven’t already donated, your gift will not only help the new Bajos del Norte campaign but will also help us triple the net-pulling capacity of our flagship Seahorse in the Upper Gulf of California, where discarded and illegal fishing gear pushes species to the brink and threatens the long-term health of the entire region. Currently, the Seahorse can pull nets up to 1 ton, and the new crane we will be installing will triple its net-pulling capacity to 3 tons, every stitch of nets we remove will improve the chances of survival for rays, whales, turtles, and sea lions.
Every contribution to this challenge, no matter the size, makes a significant difference. Together, we can ensure that our oceans are thriving and teeming with life for generations to come. Please consider donating today!
