Dear Friend,
As we close out July, it’s clear just how eventful and pivotal this month has been for our movement. Yesterday marked 100 days until the presidential election, underscoring the urgency and significance of our efforts. With each passing day, the countdown shortens, and the uncertainty in our nation and state intensifies. Yet, amidst these challenges, we are more committed than ever to protecting progressive values and driving meaningful change.
Tomorrow is Medicare's birthday, a milestone that has profoundly impacted millions of working families by providing essential healthcare. To celebrate this anniversary, our Healthcare Task Force held a special event over the weekend. Be sure to check their section of the memo to learn more about the celebration and what’s at stake for Medicare in the upcoming election.

Healthcare Justice Campaign: Happy Birthday Medicare and Medicaid!
Tomorrow, July 30th, marks the 59th Anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid! These public programs have provided countless lifesaving healthcare services and benefits to tens of millions of Ameicans since the 1960’s. It’s not an exaggeration to say that the outcome of the 2024 elections will determine the future of Medicare and Medicaid. Remember who is on our side and the side of these programs when you vote in the general election! Hint: it’s NOT the candidates who support Project 2025 and the MAGA agenda! It’s the candidates who are working to and pledging to strengthen and expand Medicare and Medicaid.
Progressive Maryland and People’s Action along with Be A Hero and Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP) organized a Celebrate Medicare’s Birthday community event at the Takoma Park Farmers Market yesterday. We had birthday cupcakes, a “take a whack at health insurance company greed” pinata, petitions to sign, and more! People shared their stories and concerns about insurance barriers to care and their negative experiences with Medicare Advantage. These MA plans are draining billions of public dollars from Medicare and harming thousands of their policyholders. It’s going to take grassroots organizing and a public outcry to protect and reclaim Medicare. Join us!
➢ Volunteer ➢ Email Patty to tell us about a community we should attend or to learn more.
