WASHINGTON (Sinclair Broadcast Group) — Amid devastating human and economic losses from the coronavirus, two U.S. states are demanding that China be held accountable for the global pandemic.

Mississippi and Missouri can expect significant legal hurdles but their complaints come as a growing number of countries are looking to impose costs on China for its initial handling of the crisis.

On Wednesday, Missippi announced it would follow Missouri's example and file a federal lawsuit against China seeking damages under the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act (FSIA) for the country's alleged failure to prevent the spread of the virus.
