John,

Since the late ‘80s, the Sinclair Broadcast Group has bought up local news stations across the country. Today, they control an astonishing 190 stations in more than 100 markets.

Sinclair has used their massive reach to put far-right, nationally produced propaganda in local news broadcasts. Recently, that includes a constant drumbeat of negative stories about President Biden and positive news about Donald Trump.

While many have tried to sound the alarm about Sinclair, a damning new report says Sinclair’s own former top anchor Eugene Ramirez resigned in January over concerns about “the accuracy and right-wing bias of the content he was required to present on air.”

We’ll tell you more in a moment, but if you’re ready to support COURIER’s mission to provide a local news alternative to Sinclair, can you chip in $20 to help us fight back? [[link removed]]

According to the report, while working as lead anchor, Ramirez was required to read stories made by Sinclair's Rapid Response Team, a national news office that compiles and summarizes talking points from Republican politicians and right-wing groups.

The report shows that those stories were negative against Democrats nearly 20% of the time, compared to just 2% of the time for Republicans.

Further, Ramirez reportedly was told not to interrupt or question some of the show’s more controversial guests, like Moms for Liberty and Project 2025 creators The Heritage Foundation.

Here’s why this matters:

* Sinclair immediately replaced Ramirez with another host, and his former show still airs on at least 70 of the local news stations Sinclair owns.
* Sinclair owns television stations that reach 40% of American households.
* According to a Pew research study, television is still the number one way Americans get their local news.

That means millions of Americans are exposed to the types of lies and deceit Ramirez warned about every single night .

John, COURIER exists to counter the dangerous lies companies like Sinclair are spreading.

While Sinclair has been buying up local news outlets, COURIER is providing a freely available alternative in the form of local newsrooms in eleven battleground states around the country.

While Sinclair uses their newsrooms to inject their communities with propaganda, we use our presence to fight back against misinformation with factual news that actually matters.

But we can’t do it without your help. We don’t rely on paywalls or subscription models to provide our news, which means we need donations from supporters like you to keep fighting back against Sinclair. If you can, can you chip in $20 to help us out? [[link removed]]
