ON THE ROAD WITH TONY...
Welcome to our July newsletter!
This month we have been preparing for the August 6 Primary Election, and Early In-Person voting is already underway. Early Voting will be open to all Macomb County voters leading up to the August 6, 2024 Primary Election. Early Voting began on Saturday, July 27th and will end on Sunday, August 4th.
In November 2022, Michigan voters overwhelmingly approved a constitutional amendment that gives voters the right to vote in person at early voting sites before statewide and federal elections. Communities may also choose to provide early in-person voting for local elections. Early voting allows a voter to cast their ballot in-person into a tabulator.
Fortunately, the residents in the State of Michigan listened to the concerns about mail-in absentee ballots and drop-box methods of voting, and the law was changed by a vote of the people. For those people who like the idea of putting their ballot into a tabulator, the law now allows more opportunities than ever before. Election day itself may be out of reach for family commitments, workplace obligations, weather conditions or simple forgetfulness.
To that point, recently there was an election in another part of the country. There was a snowstorm on election day and a whole demographic of citizens were disenfranchised from voting. This flipped the vote to the opposing party. Early, In-Person, Tabulated voting gives you the opportunity to have the same experience as election day – without being disenfranchised by outside interferences.
Anyway you choose to vote -- In-Person Early voting, Absent Ballot voting, or Election Day voting -- please get out and vote!

Chief Deputy Clerk Kathy Smith Celebrates 40 Years of Service
You don’t hear about this too much… My Chief Deputy Clerk, Kathy Smith, has spent the last 40 years dedicating her life to the people of Macomb County. In July, Kathy celebrated 40 years of service to the County. Our office did not let this opportunity go unnoticed. We surprised Kathy, decorating her office, parking spot and the lobby area. Many people were there to congratulate her, which included co-workers, friends, and family.

We wanted to replay an earlier podcast when Black Tea News visited the Clerk's Office to find out about how Clerk Forlini has taken multiple steps above and beyond what is required to protect the integrity of our elections in Macomb County. We thought it was important to show because there are still people wondering if their vote is protected.
To this day we remain the only county in the State to perform a forensic audit of our election servers. HASH validation, advanced training of our election workers and new protocols across our system are just a few of the things Clerk Forlini has implemented since taking office in 2021.

New Macomb County Central Intake and Assessment Center Construction Underway
I took an opportunity to take a few whacks at the old jail building at the Official “Groundbreaking Ceremony” of the New Macomb County Central Intake and Assessment Center. This state-of-the-art facility will provide vital mental health and substance use assistance, marking a new chapter in our community's commitment to public safety and comprehensive care.
Special thanks to speakers Mark Hackel, Anthony Wickersham, Don Brown, and Jeff Havranek. After the ceremony, we had the unique opportunity to tour the jail one final time before demolition.
