Dear John,
On behalf of the Nonhuman Rights Project, I’m thrilled to share that after a rigorous search that began more than a year ago, the NhRP Board has officially selected Christopher Berry as our new Executive Director.
Christopher joined the NhRP in January as our Chief Programs Officer. He brings more than thirteen years of direct experience managing litigation at the Animal Legal Defense Fund. He has the legal expertise, leadership skills, and steadfast commitment to legal rights for nonhuman animals that will enable us to continue to make steady, world-changing progress and meet any challenge we face.
Following the passing of our founder Steven Wise earlier this year, Christopher considered it important to continue a tradition Steve started to share the obstacles we’re overcoming and the progress we’re making, set against the backdrop of hundreds of years of nonhuman animals’ rightlessness: Steve’s “Letters from the Front Lines of the Struggle for Nonhuman Rights.” In honor of Steve, I’m pleased to share with you Christopher’s first letter, reflecting on his own commitment to the fight for legal rights for nonhuman animals, what the NhRP has achieved, and why he’s hopeful about what the future holds. We hope you'll read and share. There will be many more letters to come.
With your continued support, we look forward to the next chapter of the NhRP’s impact and hope you will join us in congratulating Christopher as he steps into this new role.
