Friend,

A few days ago, Alyse asked you to share how they would be impacted if the government does not provide relief funds to the postal service soon. Right now, estimates say that could happen as early as this summer.

Alaska politicians have a long history of fighting for postal service funding and against privatization. Ted Stevens pushed the bypass mail system through Congress in the early 80s that serves as a lifeline for rural communities inaccessible by roads.

Last month, when the administration told Congress that any coronavirus relief bill that included funds for the postal service would be rejected, Don Young should have stood up for us. BUT INSTEAD, HE LEFT WASHINGTON WHILE LAWMAKERS WERE STILL DEBATING THE BILL AND THEN SKIPPED THE VOTE.

In Congress, Alyse will always fight for the postal service and all our communities. That’s why she wants to hear about how will you be impacted by postal service cuts. Take our survey today. ([link removed])

We want you to know that Alyse is reading your responses, and each one will help her serve us in Washington. Here are just a few responses folks submitted:

_I COULD NOT STAY IN MY HOME WITHOUT THE USPS. THEY BRING ME MANY NECESSARY SUPPLIES. I HAVE NOWHERE ELSE TO GO THAT WOULD BE SAFE FOR ME._ -Judith

_WE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO RECEIVE CRITICAL DELIVERIES OF FOOD AND PRESCRIPTION DRUGS...THE GUSTAVUS POST OFFICE IS ALSO A PLACE WHERE PEOPLE MEET. IT IS A SMALL COMMUNITY HUB (IN NON-COVID TIMES, OF COURSE)._ -Karen

_NOT EVERYONE IN OUR STATE IS CONNECTED TO THE ROAD SYSTEM OR HAS A COMPUTER, LAPTOP, CELL PHONE, OR EVEN INTERNET ACCESS. THE USPS IS OUR LINK TO THE REST OF THE UNITED STATES AND THE REST OF THE WORLD._ -Carole

_LACK OF FUNDING COULD CAUSE THE CLOSURE OF OUR LOCAL CHICKALOON POST OFFICE WHICH WOULD REQUIRE EVERYONE IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD AND UP THE MATANUSKA VALLEY TO RELY ON THE SUTTON POST OFFICE. THIS WOULD INVOLVE A 30-MILE ROUND TRIP FOR PEOPLE IN MY COMMUNITY TO GET THEIR MAIL._ -Frankie

_IT IS MY LIFELINE. I DO NOT GET MAIL DELIVERED TO MY HOME. IT SERVES ALSO AS THE CENTER FOR THE SMALL COMMUNITY OF DOUGLAS THAT I LIVE IN._ -Shirley

_LIVING IN DILLINGHAM WHERE WE HAVE DEPENDED ON USPS FOR MEDICATION, GROCERIES, SUPPLIES WOULD BE NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE. _-Rachel

_BESIDES NOT GETTING MY BILLS, MAGAZINES, LETTERS FROM GRANDKIDS, ETC., I WOULD LOSE THE ONE PERSON WHO CHECKS ON ME EVERY DAY._ -Charity

Now Alyse wants to hear from you. Take our survey and share how cuts to the postal service will impact you. ([link removed])

Thanks,

Team Alyse
